The Fantastic Mister P

Moss often wonders about her friend Pan.

“Pan,” Moss thinks, “is a most mysterious kind of cat. He is the best at sleeping, but he does sometimes disappear. I wonder where he goes. He slips through his special flappy swinger-thing and then I don’t see him until the dusky pink of the new day.”

One dark night, when the wide door to the world outside was left open, Pan trots out as usual. This time, Moss follows.

Pan moves like a whisper through the night-time streets and alleyways. And Moss follows.

Suddenly, Pan darts through a slice of yellow light into the warm glow beyond. Moss stops and sniffs. She hears a la-la-la-laaa noise and feels a thumping beat under her feet.

“Can I help you?” purrs a voice.

Moss is looking into the face of a generously whiskered cat. She hurriedly points toward her friend Pan, disappearing behind a lush, velveteen curtain.
